Samba Digital strengthens its iGaming services with new affiliate marketing services and expands into Africa

Lisbon (Portugal) – April 22, 2024 – 18:00 PM CET: Samba Digital (ISIN PTDGL0AM0003 Mnemonic MLSMB), a global player in sports marketing, continues its growth by introducing affiliate marketing solutions and expanding its geographical presence, notably in Africa, to meet the increasing demand from iGaming operators.

Affiliate marketing is a business model where iGaming companies, called “operators,” collaborate with external partners, known as “affiliates.” These affiliates are responsible for promoting the operators’ services in exchange for performance-based compensation. This system ensures optimized advertising investment as affiliates are only paid when their efforts yield tangible results such as new player acquisition or increased brand visibility. This model not only allows for precise measurement of return on investment but is also scalable, meaning Samba Digital can apply it across multiple clients and territories simultaneously, thus enabling rapid and controlled expansion of its activities.

This initiative is bolstered by the hiring of Catarina Marques, former business development manager at Clever Advertising, whose expertise and deep knowledge of the African market support Samba Digital’s ambitions in this new market.

Camila Cunha, iGaming Manager at Samba Digital, explains: “Our goals for this year include enriching our offerings with affiliate marketing and broadening our global presence, particularly in Africa. Catarina, with her valuable experience, will play a key role in achieving our iGaming ambitions.”

Press Release: 2023 results show a significant increase in revenue and profitability

Lisbon (Portugal) – February 28, 2024 – 6:00 PM: Samba Digital, a global player in sports marketing, presents its 2023 results in line with its forecasts and showing a significant improvement compared to the 2022 fiscal year.

The 2023 financial results, as approved by the Board of Directors of Samba Digital SGPS (Portugal), listed on Euronext Lisbon (ISIN PTDGL0AM0003, Mnemonic MLSMB), are as follows:

The variation indicates growth in published data and, at constant exchange rates, the progression in dollars excluding currency variation.

The final and audited accounts will be available by May 20, 2024, at the latest.

Increase in Activity Across All Regions

In 2023, Samba Digital successfully deployed its offerings globally, perfectly meeting the challenges of digital sports marketing in all regions of the world. The geographical distribution remains roughly the same as in 2022, with slight growth in Francophone Europe.

The geographical distribution is as follows:

The 2023 fiscal year was notably driven by significant activity with the National Football League and one of its biggest clubs, which won the Super Bowl for the second time, with prestigious new football clubs, and even diversification outside of the sports world but still linked to it, as part of the Paris Olympics.

It is noteworthy that Samba Digital made a significant investment effort of $1M in Artificial Intelligence for its Força “creative services” online offering, which is already bearing fruit since, as of today, the revenue already billed in 2024 amounts to $321K, thus validating the forecast of $2M included in the budgeted 2024 revenue of $10M. It is important to mention that this offering was developed in partnership with Orange Business’ Data Science department.

Operating income stands at €1.51M, up 76% from 2022. Thanks to a 100% subcontracting model and an increase in activity allowing for better absorption of its fixed costs, Samba Digital’s operational profitability significantly appreciated in 2023, reaching 27.1% of revenue, an increase of 4.7 points.

After accounting for a tax expense of €328K, net income stands at €1.18M, up 78% from 2022. The net margin remains solid, exceeding 21%.

A solid financial structure

The company is fully self-financed without having to resort to bank debt. However, given the numerous development projects and their impact on working capital needs, the Company obtained a credit line of €400K from Santander Bank in 2023, which has been utilized up to €273K as of December 31.

As of 12/31/2023, the company’s consolidated cash holdings amount to €906K (including $292K on the US subsidiary’s books), and its client receivables stand at €1.3M.

Equity has reached €25.18M as of 12/31/2023 after incorporating the 2023 net income.

Outlook: A revenue target of €10M for 2024

For 2024, Samba Digital will continue its commercial efforts at a sustained pace with particularly dynamic news in the world of sports (Olympic and Paralympic Games in France in the summer of 2024, European Football Championships, etc.). Concurrently, the company will continue its expansion into new regions, particularly in the Middle East and specifically in Saudi Arabia, where it is already involved in projects related to the 2034 Football World Cup.

Thanks to its business model favouring recurring subscription-type revenues and the high renewal rate of its client contracts, Samba Digital starts the year with a high level of backlog. The company thus is aiming for a 2024 revenue of €10M, representing an organic growth of nearly 70% for the upcoming fiscal year.

As previously announced, Samba Digital also confirms its intention to request a transfer to Euronext Growth® Lisbon in the first half of 2024 followed by a dual listing of its shares in Paris.

This strategic innovation is expected to account for 20% of the company’s sales in 2024.

The year 2023 was marked by strong growth, with sales up 44%, and benefiting from the impact of several strategic initiatives. In January 2023, the company made a major breakthrough with the launch of TALENTISI®, the world’s first collaborative platform dedicated to sporting organisations. This ambitious initiative offered unprecedented access to a full range of resources, including advanced graphics and design, as well as video and motion design services.

Over the course of 2023, Samba Digital has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to innovation and quality, investing over $1M, entirely self-financed, in the enhancement of the TALENTISI® platform and in the revolutionary field of artificial intelligence applied to graphics and design. This strategic move towards integrating AI into all commercial offerings marks a major turning point for Samba Digital, which plans to officially launch all these innovative services during the second quarter of 2024. The Força studio, which is spearheading this advance, anticipates potential revenue of $2M in 2024, reflecting the strong market demand for creative and technologically advanced solutions in the sports marketing sector. This contribution will enable the company to achieve its sales target of €10M1 in 2024.

Frédéric Fausser, CEO of Samba Digital: “The gradual adoption of artificial intelligence into our offerings is radically transforming our processes, from design and illustration through to video production. Currently, around 25% of our creative output benefits from AI. This integration is enabling us to significantly improve our creative capabilities and efficiency, from the initial sketches through to the most complex finished products.”

Very good business trends

Samba Digital posted sales of €2.51M in the first half of 2023, up a strong 27% on the same period last year. Organic growth at constant exchange rates was even higher at 32%, due to the appreciation of the euro against the US dollar.

Revenue growth was driven in particular by the renewal, without exception, of all customer contracts, in most cases accompanied by a significant increase in said contracts. It also benefited from the contribution of new contracts in targeted geographical areas, such as the American and French-speaking territories.

Increased operating profitability

The recurring nature of this business on within the customer base is helping to improve the operating margin. It stood at 26.2% at end-June 2023, compared with 23.1% for the same period last year. Operating profit for H1 2023 came to €659k, up 57% on H1 2022, and even up 62% at constant exchange rates.

After taking into account the financial results and taxes, net profit came to €519K, up 63%, giving a net margin of over 20% for H1 2023.

Outlook for 2023: A €5.9M sales target confirmed

Thanks to the performances already achieved in the first half of the year, and to a good level of contracts in hand, Samba Digital reaffirms its confidence in achieving 2023 sales of €5.9M, representing growth of more than 50%, and in achieving operating profit of €1.4M, representing growth of 57% already confirmed in the first half of the year.
