Samba’s Weekly Trends in LatAm and the US (28/09/20)

Share:

After a short break, we’re back with our trends and insights from the Latin America and US regions. There’s been so much going on with the NBA Playoffs, NFL back, a tennis major in Paris and football (soccer) happening in almost every country now. With so much sport there comes even more competition as they look to stand out on social media. So here we look at some of the best, as well as updates on sport business news and social media platform updates.

GREAT CONTENT FROM LATAM AND THE US

A fantastic idea from Denver Broncos as seats in stadiums around the world stay empty, or close to. We’ve seen cardboard cutouts in seats before but this takes the idea to another level.

Last year Wolverhampton Wanderers dedicated its third kit to Mexico due the fans who support the club because of Raul Jimenez. This time they did it again, dedicating its 3rd kit to Portugal as they now have 10 players from the country in their squad.

Great video from Boca Juniors in partnership with adidas to celebrate they are back on the pitch for Copa Libertadores after almost 7 months away.

A great example of cross sports partnerships, this time between NFL side Kansas City Chiefs and Mexican football team Club América. Sometimes all it takes is a shirt and a player video to get the right message across.

And Serie A is starting to catch up with other leagues in Europe by launching a Spanish language Twitter account. We’re passionate about helping league’s and clubs connect with fans around the world in localised aways, and it’s good to see Italy taking that path.

SPORTS BUSINESS HEADLINES

Ceará Sporting Club (above) recently launched a brand new project for its retail store that will be in their training facility. Through the store fans will have access to the clubs museum, convenience store and recreational area . This new project marks a new step forward for the clubs own brand, which was launched at the end of 2019.

Man City and Puma launch the first ever esports kit available for fans as the merging of sports and gaming increases. This can only help in pushing the City name further into gaming audiences, as well as creating new revenue in an area that esports teams do very well in – mancity.com

Globo has announced the sponsorship fee for Brazilian football transmission packages for 2021 – Propmark.com

VBET has become the official presenting partner of OneFootball for Bundesliga in Brazil, as well as the Official Betting Partner of OneFootball – Games Magazine Brasil – Gamesbras

I think that everyone on Twitter and LinkedIn has seen the above case study video for Burger King in recent days as they made Stevenage FC, from England’s fourth division, into the most used team in career mode on FIFA 20. The video has certainly got people talking, possibly more than the original activation did.

SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORM UPDATES

Facebook is removing it’s restrictions on text content in Facebook ad images, giving advertisers the opportunity to increase the text used in ads beyond the heavily restrictive 20% that had been used up to now – Social Media Today
