Everyone in the sports world has their eyes on the U.S.! The NBA Finals kicked off this Thursday at the TD Garden in Boston, featuring a showdown between the Boston Celtics and the Dallas Mavericks.

On the court, the Celtics, who finished the regular season with a stellar record of 64 wins and 18 losses, are boasting talents like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, and Kristaps Porzingis. Meanwhile, the Mavericks are hitting their stride with Luka Dončić and Kyrie Irving leading the charge.

When it comes to their digital performance, both teams have been smashing it. In May, the Boston Celtics took second place in terms of account reach on X (formerly Twitter), while the Dallas Mavericks snagged the third spot.

But the story changes a bit when we look at engagement, which shows how well the content connects with fans. The Celtics scored a whopping 25 million direct interactions, surpassing the Minnesota Timberwolves, who previously led in engagement for May. The Mavericks held strong in third place, far ahead of the Denver Nuggets.

Leading the Eastern Conference and chasing the crown lost when the Los Angeles Lakers caught up in total championships (17), the Celtics didn’t quite dominate in digital engagement like they did on the court. On X, the Celtics only grabbed the fifth spot in the most engaging posts with 43,000 interactions.

The Mavericks, on the other hand, performed better in May with the third spot, racking up 47,000 interactions. Overall, the Mavericks had more posts in May than their Finals opponent: 804 compared to the Celtics’ 649.
