According to Catalan radio station RAC1, FC Barcelona is on the verge of signing a significant sponsorship deal with iconic music streaming business Spotify. This thrilling new deal is certainly music to Barcelona’s ears, as it is worth an incredible $320 million dollars.

Spotify will take over as the front shirt sponsor of Barcelona’s men’s and women’s teams beginning with the 2022/23 season, replacing Rakuten. According to rumours, Spotify is in high demand because they are now the club’s training partner in place of Beko.

A New Name for Nou Camp Stadium

Spotify will be the first brand to gain the naming rights to Barcelona’s Nou Camp stadium. This stadium will not only have a new name, but it will also undergo a $1.7 billion renovation. This intriguing new collaboration with Spotify comes on the heels of the club’s collaboration with blockchain platform Polkadot. These new agreements indicate their determination to establish themselves in the ever-expanding digital arena.

Prior to Spotify, Rakuten had been Barcelona’s primary shirt sponsor since the 2017/18 season. This was before signing an extension in November 2020, which will expire at the end of the 2021/22 season. The initial contract, inked in 2016, was worth a whopping $63 million per year.

Apparently, Barcelona has been looking for a new premium sponsor for some time, and Spotify was their winning idea. Spotify has also been busy, as they have been linked with a buyout of English Premier League soccer club Arsenal.

Barcelona has certainly been active both on and off the pitch. This is demonstrated by the fact that they are now fourth in LaLiga, 15 points behind league leaders Real Madrid. Unfortunately, the Catalan squad did not advance from its group in the Uefa Champions League this season. This is notable since it is the first time in 17 years that it has failed to advance to the knockout stages.
