Where City Meets Club: Crafting CF Montréal’s Identity
Mission
For the 2025–26 season, CF Montréal approached its visual identity as more than a seasonal update. The club wanted to mark a new chapter with a system that could carry meaning, reflect its environment and bring consistency across every touchpoint. This is where Samba Digital stepped in, leading the project from creative direction to execution, focusing on building an identity that works both strategically and visually in a modern sports ecosystem.
Approach
Samba Digital structured the entire creative process around four key principles:
- City-Rooted Creative Direction
The visual identity drew direct inspiration from Montréal itself, particularly the city’s reconstruction era in the 1960s and 70s. Brutalist architecture became a natural reference point, influencing a design language built on strong grids, modular compositions and textures reminiscent of concrete and steel. - A Contemporary Visual System
Rather than applying references literally, Samba translated them into a modern framework where each element feels intentional and part of a broader construction, building the identity brick by brick. - Flexible, Scalable Toolkit
Instead of creating fixed visuals, Samba designed a toolkit of interchangeable components that could adapt to different formats and moments throughout the season, from matchday graphics to social media content, allowing the club to remain consistent while still evolving creatively over time. - Heritage-First Colour Strategy
Preserving the club’s identity was key. The blue and black palette was used with confidence, balanced by neutral tones to create contrast and clarity, ensuring the new look felt bold and modern without losing its connection to CF Montréal’s heritage.
Outcome
The result is a cohesive and scalable identity that strengthens the club’s presence across all channels. More than a visual refresh, Samba Digital delivered a structured and adaptable system that supports CF Montréal’s communication over time, giving the club the tools to express itself consistently while continuing to grow.
