Brazilian football legend, Ronaldo Nazário, signs a multi-project contract with DAZN
DAZN, the global streaming sports network, and Ronaldo Nazário, a Brazilian soccer star, have teamed up to develop a number of projects. This partnership is the next major move for DAZN to be seen as a home for high-end sports-based entertainment programming as well as a service worth keeping throughout the off-season. This new venture will begin on May 20th with the global release of “El Presidente,” a documentary series about the former striker’s reign as a part-owner of Spanish Valladolid FC.
The first of three series starring Ronaldo to debut on DAZN is “El Presidente,” a co-production between Zoom Sport and DAZN. O Fenômeno, a former player, bought a stake in Valladolid FC in late 2018. This mid-table team was an unexpected option as it is famous for battling relegation rather than winning trophies.
Initially, this purchase was likely a marketing stunt. However, as time went by, Ronaldo demonstrated that he was capable of leading and won the hearts of fans, staff, and players. But, as Ronaldo discovered, it takes a lot more than excitement to compete in the top flight of soccer. This is particularly true for a team that has faced relegation, never-ending controversies, and financial uncertainty.
Season 1 coming soon
This first series will feature interviews and commentary from those who knew Ronaldo as a player and a businessman. These episodes will showcase Roberto Carlos, Dida, Pep Guardiola, Boudewijn Zenden, Javier Zanetti, and journalist Sid Lowe. Season two, although not released, will go deeper into Ronaldo’s incredible career, including his legendary World Cup run in 1998. The plot for Season three is still up in the air. However, it stands to reason that the outcome of this year’s La Liga relegation may have a significant effect.
More than just this new series honoring one of football’s all-time greats is on the way from DAZN. According to the streaming website, “The Xtra Sessions” will also be back on our screens. This series will chronicle Club Ibiza’s battle for promotion to Spain’s first tier, as well as the perspectives of their fans.
