With Copa America just around the corner, Fox Sports has secured rights in the United States to a number of national team soccer tournaments featuring South American countries. This partnership is set to last thanks to a new six-year broadcast contract between Fox Sport and Conmebol.
More coverage for Fox Sports
These rights will be a welcome addition to Fox Sports, which has reduced its global soccer coverage in recent years since losing the Uefa Champions League and Europa League to Turner Sports. The network has also lost Bundesliga to ESPN. Not only that but the English FA Cup and the Scottish Premier League will both be shown live on ESPN+. The English-language rights to the much-anticipated rescheduled Copa America, which will take place in Argentina and Columbia from June 12th to July 12th, will be the first milestone in this partnership.
What can fans expect?
The collaboration between Fox Sports and the South American soccer governing body has a number of advantages. Over 1,500 hours of amazing national team soccer coverage will be available on the network. They also have the rights to three editions of the Women’s Copa America, and the men’s Copa America in 2024. This new deal does not stop there; Fox Sports fans will have access to both the men’s and women’s qualifiers for the Fifa World Cup as well as the long-awaited Olympic Games. As if that wasn’t enough, the deal also Conmebol beach soccer futsal as well as youth team qualifiers.
Unfortunately for soccer fans, there is a set of rights that are out of Fox Sports’ reach. Fox Sport was unable to gain the rights to Conmbeol qualifiers for the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar which was recently won by streaming service FuboTV.
According to Conmebol president Alejandro Dominguez, Fox Sports has a reputation for organizing and sponsoring top-tier football tournaments. The visibility of these soccer matches in the United States has boosted thanks to this sports channel. This collaboration allows them to build excitement among their fans for Conmebol’s Copa America in 2021, just as they did for the men’s and women’s World Cups.
The Copa America is now part of Fox Sports’ already extensive international soccer tournament schedule. Fox Sports also has the men’s and women’s Fifa World Cups, as well as the Concacaf Gold Cup.
